If you do a Google search on how to increase your Alexa ranking you will be overwhelmed with way too much advice. Is it really that important to have a high Alexa ranking or is it just one more statistic to worry about?
We don't make a penny of revenue on this blog but if you wanted to advertise on your blog in a big way you might want to give particular focus to your Alexa rankings.
Here are a few tips if you are new to blogging or just want to focus on your Alexa ranking:
1) Blog on a consistent basis. Sometimes there is great lengths between posts on our blog and it really causes your Alexa rating to drop when you stop blogging even for a short time period.
2) Write on something that will drive traffic. Increased traffic = increased Alexa ranking.
3) It is essential that you update Alexa and inform them that your blog has a new post. If you run Feedbuner you can configure it to automatically ping Alexa. You can also ping your blog at Alexa - look towards the bottom of the page. You should also be sure that your blog has the most recent thumbnail displayed at Alexa. Go to Alexa and enter the url for your blog to obtain traffic details. Click on "Edit Site Info" on the left hand sidebar. You will see a link to click to update your blogs thumbnail.
4) The MOST important thing is to download the Alexa toolbar and encourage others to do the same.
5) Place an Alexa rank widget on your website or blog.
6) Suggest related links to your website or blog.
7) Use Alexa redirects to your website. http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.daddy.typepad.com Click on this link and you will see that it redirects you back to this blog. Just replace our url with yours. Place these redirect links in forums, email signatures, etc.
8) STAY AWAY from Alexa Autosurfs!
9) You might want to join an Alexa link train. I have not tried this myself but some say it is effective.
10) Frequent, quality content is THE best way to boost your Alexa ranking.

The secret is to: first install the Alexa widget on your site. Then Install the firefox searchstatus plugin. Third Change your home page to be that of your site. Next offer a freebie on your site and advertise it on various internet groups.
