Robert and I had the pleasure of being invited to the Lincoln Tribute Dinner and the VIP Reception held by the Calhoun County Republicans. We had a wonderful evening and had so much fun talking to all who attended this grand event. What an amazing group of people who made us feel so welcomed and honored to be present at this event. We found that everyone was interested in the EQUAL Parenting Bike Trek; some had told us they would see Robert depart on August 11, 2007 in Lansing. We were delighted to find out that many in attendance had already been following the EQUAL Parenting Bike Trek on this Blog. Which is a reminder to me to thank all of you who read this Blog on a daily basis. We are very humbled by the drastic upturn in traffic and other Bloggers linking to our stories.
Robert and I are both so busy that it felt wonderful to go out as a couple and enjoy the night with so many others. Robert proudly proclaimed to everyone while smiling that we have a little Pedersen on the way! The VIP reception was a special event for a select few to meet Terri Lynn Land, Michigan's Secretary of State, and to discuss issues one on one. Robert is predicting that Terri Lynn Land will be our next Governor in the state of Michigan. I have to agree with him because she was really sharp.
We also spoke at great length with U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg about shared parenting issues. U.S. Congressman Walberg and Mrs. Walberg were a joy to talk with once again. Walberg Picture: Speaking at our Lansing, MI Rally. We also found, while he gave a presentation at the Lincoln Dinner, that he has an incredible sense of humor and was quite comical.
We had the pleasure of speaking with State Representatives Wenke, Nofs and Caswell. All three support shared parenting and HB 4564 which was excellent to finally confirm. We were also able to talk to two of the Calhoun County Commissioners, the County Prosecutor, the Sheriff, Emmett Township trustees and elected officials and so many more.
This was so much fun and we had an incredible time talking up a storm and enjoying the fine food. I enjoyed watching Robert's confidence and composure from a distance. Sometimes we split up so that we could talk to particular people. This is one thing I love about Robert is that he is not the jealous type and never minds me talking with whomever I want. He is the least controlling man I have ever known and I admire that about him. I feel very lucky.
This event was held at the Southern Exposure Herb Farm which was so beautiful. The grounds were breathtaking just to look at and there was a wonderful breeze that evening. The scenery reminded me so much of the day Robert asked for my hand in marriage. It is a day I go back to numerous times throughout each and every day. What a memorable evening we had at the Lincoln Tribute Dinner!
One thing which Robert and I found striking was the large amount of support for shared parenting and the EQUAL Parenting Bike Trek. To deny a child one of their fit parents is immoral, un-Christian and a form of child abuse.
Factoid: Did you know that President Lincoln suffered from constant domestic violence assaults by his wife Mary? Mary abused President Lincoln by both physical and psychological means. This was one of the first, well documented cases of abuse a man can suffer at the hands and mind of a woman. However, most domestic violence between husband and wife has been shown to be mutual in nature. Physical strength is only half of the equation. A non-physical example would be a spouse, during the course of a divorce, threatening to go for full custody of the children if the house isn't given to them. This is precisely why bills like HB 4564 make so much sense. We encourage all of our readers to join and volunteer for Stop Abuse For Everyone (SAFE). This international human rights agency has no gender warfare hidden in it's agenda. Their only agenda is stopping domestic violence for BOTH genders. They also have an excellent Blog.
