Two new releases from Harry Connick, Jr. will be coming to us on January 31st and we are very excited about this! "Oh, My Nola" is your traditional Harry Connick Jr. album with jazz, funk, classics along with 4 new songs by Harry Connick, Jr. One of those songs, "All These People" was released this past summer and was written from the suffering Harry Connick Jr. saw after the destruction of Hurricane Katrina.
I have shared this song with my husband and also the things I saw when I volunteered to help for a week in some of the most damaged areas caused by Katrina. Robert always calls me the "Angel that came into his life" and frequently refers to what I experienced when down there. There is nothing more fulfilling than being a Registered Nurse involved with Emergency and Critical Care. Challenging as well - I have seen many people die as patients and held their hand as they passed before my very eyes.
Emotionally it is a very challenging career that very few can handle and eventually lose some of their skills by going to traditional employment such as working in a physician office. Robert was, and still is, blown away by how much knowledge I have because he was used to interacting with MAs, LPNs and RNs from the offices he called on in sales.
I will never forget how Robert looked at me when I helped his father after having surgery for cancer. He was already having a bad day because his ex-wife was being hurtful by not allowing Robert's daughter (son only) to also see Papa Pedersen after surgery. He was so happy to see all of us and especially one (out of 2) of Robert's children. He tells us even today how much Robert's son made him happy by their interaction together. Robert's son told him how much he misses Papa Pedersen and we all had to hold back the tears. I then double checked the surgery site and how the nurses were taking care of him. It is an incredible feeling to have a husband admire you as much as mine does. I feel very lucky. Back to the music...
The second album being released on the same day is "Chanson du Viex Carre" which is more of the traditional New Orleans style Jazz. This will be his third release on the Marsalis Music record label. Robert and I are both looking forward to listening to these new albums. I have long been a fan of this genre of music. I remember talking to Robert one day at my "starter" nursing job and he introduced me to Depeche Mode. I told him I would listen to DM if he would give Harry a solid listening. Music is one of the ways we connected when we were just friends. How wonderful it is to marry a friend that I have known for years and not someone I met casually or on match.com.
We both experienced Depeche Mode front row seats and actually met all of the members of the band personally. I bought Robert for his birthday two consecutive days of DM and both were front row seats! Funny how Dave Gahan did a double take when he saw us the second night and then winked at us. So much fun! Robert frequently listens to a Depeche Mode song called "Precious" which he calls his son's song because it is about a father's concern for his son for seeing less of him because of a divorce. Martin Gore wrote this song about his divorce and loss of time with his child.
Another song we both love to listen to is "Just Because" by Todd Sharpville. Although we have to space it out because each time we listen to it Robert is torn apart. He has a copy saved for both of his children when they are old enough to have it. You can listen to it here: Download 64247596_b432f0d7.mp3
As you know sports, music, and more is part of Daddy Blog! We try to tone done the seriousness from time to time. This is not my personal story that I promised earlier! I am still trying to decide how I will approach the writing of it. Hope everyone is having a fun weekend like we are! Angela Pedersen, R.N. http://www.squidoo.com/fatherachildsright
Always remember - A Child's Right: EQUAL time with Both fit Parents. Also thank you to those who have signed up from our volunter page at our main organization's website! This is something new we are trying that has brought in a ton of (oddly enough) grandparents in particular.
